Red Tailed Hawk Teen Leadership Camp

The Red Tailed Hawk Leadership Camp is for youth, ages 13-17 and combines classic Wild Earth camp experiences (fire-making, exploring the woods, natural crafts, etc.) with leadership skills to prepare participants for the challenge of an overnight camp out.

Red Tailed Hawk Leadership Camp is designed for teens who want to take the next step from camper into a leadership role, whether that be as a Counselor in Training (CIT) at Wild Earth or in any other areas of leadership in the teen’s life!

This four week camp session focuses on building practical knowledge through experiences on the land, challenging the participants to understand themselves as leaders not only of a team but of their local and global communities. By self-identifying and taking the first steps into areas for personal growth (e.g., public speaking, problem-solving, planning, delegating, etc.), teens will receive the practical preparation for being a CIT, their potential next role at Wild Earth. The camp will also integrate opportunities for debrief and self-reflection, which teens can use to inform their college applications or their career journeys.

In the last week of camp, campers will apply their Wild Earth skills during an overnight full of cooking, games, and nighttime adventures! It is here especially that teens will learn one of the most important characteristics of leadership: that good leaders know how to have fun!

    Camp at a Glance:
Our curriculum plans are built around the interests and needs of the participants that arrive at camp. We will focus our curriculum plans around:

    • Building relationships through games and challenges
    • Working on natural crafts. Some we’ve done in the past include: carving, leather work, pottery, basket weaving, building projects, etc. These will be bigger crafts that will take multiple days to complete.
    • Setting personal leadership goals
    • Practicing and executing leadership skills with peers and by engaging with Raven age campers
    • Relaxing in nature: Drawing, writing, sitting by the stream, etc.
    • Camping out! Camp will culminate in an overnight where the group will use all the skills learned throughout camp

Red Tailed Hawk: Teen Camp Testimonials

“I am furthering skills that I’ll be able to use in the future.”

“The experience was empowering and helped build independence.”

“This program got our daughter out of her room! And she learned specific new skills. Being a teenager is rough these days and this is one of the few things that sparks her.”

“I recommend this program for anyone who is serious about learning about the land and the woods surrounding us, and also about yourself and the people in your community.”

“I recommend this program because getting in touch with nature is good for everyone–especially kids who are so involved with technology in this day and age.”
