More than 400 campers came to Wild Earth this summer

Published September 6th, 2016

2016-summer-statsIn 13 years of offering Wild Earth, nobody has ever been turned away for lack of funds. This summer, our organization gave away more than $40,000 in summer camp financial aid and discounts.

From foster care children to NYC weekenders, families from all walks of life were able to participate in Wild Earth’s incredible camps.

More than 70% of this summer’s instructors were alumni of our programs! From the teen CITs all the way up to the Program Coordinators, this year’s instructors were an inspiring group of loving role-models for more than 400 children.

It was an incredible summer:

  • 2-4 year olds explored forest-skills and crafts with their parents at our Chickadee (Parent-Tot) Camp with Rob Lathrop and Ashley Sapir.
  • Wild Earth Art Camp ran for it’s third year led by Mary Jane Nusbaum and Katie Grove and a stellar group of instructors.
  • Two 2-week sessions of Screech Owl Camp were led by the ever awesome Esperanza Gonzalez.
  • Two 2-week sessions of Kestrel Camp were led by the incredibly calm and cool Dustin Lamberta.
  • An August 2-week session of Kestrel & Screech Owl Camp were led by Katie Grove and Liana Gabel with both camps running alongside one another in Accord!
  • Four-weeks of Raven Camp were led by Zoya Teirstein & Kole Brownstein. This was the first time Wild Earth camper-alumni have grown experienced enough to coordinate a camp of their own! Congratulations Zoya & Kole on a job well done!!
  • Four-weeks of Teen Leadership Experience were led by the always inspiring Michaela Himelfarb, including a one-night overnight! Congrats to all of the TLE graduates!

Finally, a big shout out to Simon Abramson and Mai McNamara, who did a stellar job co-directing the Wild Earth Summer Camp this year!
